Zone Map

Fire Permit Zones

You might require a Fire Permit depending on where you live and the current fire danger conditions. The Southern Rural Fire District manages the area under two main zones.

Zone A – Fire Permits required in a restricted fire season

Where the general risk is low the areas in Zone A will be managed with an Open Fire Season. Zone A areas will be upgraded to a Restricted Fire Season status or Prohibited Fire Season status when fire danger values reach certain thresholds.

Fire Permits are not required to light fires in Zone A areas until a Restricted Fire Season is imposed. However we recommend you follow the "Recommended Best Practice Guidelines for Lighting Fires in the Open" when undertaking any burning activities.

Zone B – Fire Permits required 365 days a year

Because of the higher risk and values threatened Zone B areas will be managed with a Restricted Fire Season 365 days a year. Zone B areas will be upgraded to a Prohibited Fire Season status when fire danger values increase to reach certain thresholds.

Fire Permits are required to light fires 365 days a year. Fire Permits will be cancelled in a Prohibited Fire Season.
